Cedar Products

Stave Lake Cedar has a quality policy that is unrivalled in our industry. Before creating re-butted and re-jointed shingles the inbound raw product must be produced. Waldun Forest Products supplies Stave Lake with selected raw shingles, but with the growing market share for Waldun’s high-end products for roofing, it’s production will not fully support all Stave Lake’s needs. At Stave, shingles from outside sources are very carefully and systematically purchased. All products sent through the kiln to be processed into R&R’s (re-butted and re-jointed) are Bureau mills. Our company has worked very hard to create a “grade of its own” to supply Stave Lake’s appetite for very high-end shingles.

Most mills plainly can not make a shingle that is good enough to be put into a Stave box. After years of working with our shingle suppliers, we have actually developed #1 shingles that far exceed the grading rules and the industry standard. This product is not only preselected for consistency in width, thickness, tight grain, and a fresh appearance but they are hand picked for clean sawn faces. This has become a regular practice which in turn adds beauty and value to the finish of a Stave Lake product. Other producers just buy #1 roofing stock for the lowest price possible and run it into sidewall shingles. Non-compliant mills have profit in mind; every off grade shingle in their box reflects a lower market price.
